Our factory is closed at Burgess Furniture, as we continue to follow Government guidelines on keeping our staff safe during the coronavirus pandemic. As you know, it’s an unprecedented time in our 60-year history. But like other manufacturers, we don’t want to sit back and do nothing: we want to give back and help in the fight against the disease.
As such, over the last week, we have been using our 3D printing capabilities and collaborating with other firms across the UK to make essential medical visors for key workers fighting COVID-19.
It comes after our 3D printing manufacturer developed a prototype of the gear and coordinated with its community to make all the necessary parts. To date, it has distributed over 2,500 ‘3D printed face shields’ to hospitals across the country.
It’s certainly amazing to have access to all this technology during these challenging times. We’re running our printer 24/7, creating four parts every day to help make these life-saving visors. We’re incredibly proud of the nationwide, collective response in the fight against COVID-19.
As well as the medical visors, we are creating aprons for the NHS, using our automated CNC fabric cutting machinery. We are now contacting hospitals, care homes and GPs to see if they need any of these aprons to help protect their staff.
We are certainly doing everything we can to help in the fight and are humbled by the response by our entire team at Burgess and the UK manufacturing sector, as well.
