The simple stacking chair. It’s what we’re famous for.
Back in 1939 our founder, Gerry (Gerald) Burgess, became British Amateur Tandem Cycling Champion. Inspired by his love of the sport, in 1946 immediately after the Second World War, he started his own business called GB Cycle Components Ltd, manipulating aluminium to create racing bicycle handlebars. Pedal forward 13 years to 1939 and Mr. Burgess met a designer who queried;
“You’re manipulating aluminium tubes, would you try and make me some stacking banqueting chairs?”
And do just that, he did. Thus, the Burgess Furniture we know today was born, and through the experience of bending aluminium for handlebars, aluminium banqueting chairs were the first product we ever produced. We’ve since added steel framing to our offering and have continued to grow in the hospitality furniture industry, manufacturing not only chairs but tables and accessories for some of the top hospitality venues across the globe.
60 years on and we still pride ourselves on our extremely high quality, lightweight and stackable banqueting chairs. With the exception of some of our casual seating models, all of our ranges offer stackable options ranging from 5 and 20 high, allowing practical storage in minimal space. Take a look for yourself…
