Have you ever wondered how we choose the names for our products?
This year, to celebrate our 60th anniversary, we’ve been thinking a lot about what it is that makes us special. The answer? Our incredible staff members. Company-wide, the majority of our employees boast employment records of 10+ years, with many making our 25 year club. There’s even a few that have clocked up over 35 years! Because of this amazing commitment, we decided to name some of our new bedroom range chairs after our longest standing members. We’ve already introduced you to Viram and Walsh (missed that? Click here), now meet the other two men behind the chairs…
Ryall
Named after: Terry Ryall, Works Manager
Joining the company back at the very birth of Burgess, Terry Ryall boasts an employment record of almost 50 years.
Starting his journey back in 1952, Terry Ryall joined the ranks during the GB Cycle Components era and continued to work through to the Burgess Furniture we are today. He developed across a variety of roles over the years, from Charge Hand in assembly to Foreman, Work Super Intendant to becoming the Production Manager’s right-hand man. He witnessed the factory move to four locations and served two years in the Air Force, before retiring in 2002.
When asked why he stayed for so long, Ryall replied; “I liked it here I suppose. Mr Burgess was a very kind man.”
Yorath
Named in memory of: Adrian Yorath, Financial Director
After responding to an advert in the paper looking for an “Accountant/Financial Director… who should be able to manage a small private Industrial Group’s Accounts on his own ten fingers, whilst he devotes his latent management talent and skills to helping the Chairman/M.D. in his incessant struggle to prosper…”, back in 1976, Yorath became a valued member of the Burgess family. Sadly, Adrian passed away in 2018 at the age of 75, so this chair holds a special place for us all. We are honoured to be able to remember such a valued staff member in this way and are delighted that his memory will live on for many years to come.
