Have you ever wondered how we choose the names for our products?
This year, to celebrate our 60th anniversary, we’ve been thinking a lot about what it is that makes us special. The answer? Our incredible staff members. Company-wide, the majority of our employees boast employment records of 10+ years, with many making our 25 year club. There’s even a few that have clocked up over 35 years! Because of this amazing commitment, we decided to name some of our new bedroom range chairs after our longest standing members. Meet two of the men behind the chairs below…
Viram
Named after: Viram Khunti, Paintline Operator
Back in 1979, Viram started his career with Burgess in stores, accepting all goods in to the business – from aluminium to screws. He remembers his first day as being a cold one, whilst he unloaded chairs from a lorry, but the manual role didn’t deter him as, after a year, Viram moved into the degreasing department. Back then, after products had gone through the welding process, they had to be hand dunked into large tanks to be cleaned. Thankfully, we now have an automated machine to make this step a little less messy! Khunti went on to join the Paintline team, where he remains to this day. He has been able to see the processes of the factory change so much over the years and now gets to share this with his son, who also works for Burgess in the IT department.
“Having a chair named after me has been an honour”.
Walsh
Named after: Kevin Walsh, Machine Shop Manager
Having started on August 1st 1983 as an Apprentice Development Engineer, Kevin, after three years, moved on to become Charge Hand in the machine shop. He spent five years in this role before taking on a position as a Development Engineer. Walsh stayed in this role for the next 10 years, and claims that he has stayed with the company so long because “[his] colleagues are a great bunch to work with.” After those 10 years, Walsh’s hard work and commitments were recognised further, when he became Machine Shop Manager, a role he still holds to date. What’s more, Walsh’s son now works for Burgess in the factory as well.
It sure is a family business here…
