What is a flock coated table top finish and do you need it for your venue?
Flock is the name given to the fine nylon fibres that are applied to the surface of our SlimFold™ range of banqueting tables.
Each tiny fibre is glued to the surface using an electrostatic process, meaning the fibres stand upright when adhered, rather than sticking flat to the table. This process gives the final look a seamless finish, a fabric like coating that is actually quite soft and satisfying to the touch. (You’ll want to run your hands across the surface all day, trust us).
Choices on the table
But what is the point of adding this tiny, fibrous layer? Couldn’t you just buy a table with a lovely laminate top? Our wide range of tables, such as the A-Fold, come with a huge variety of stunning HPL (High Pressure Laminate) finishes to match the decor you require, but should you be purchasing tables for a venue that hosts an array of dining events or functions, then a flock coated Slimfold™ could be a highly valuable choice. Our Slimfold™ range is the work-horse of the banqueting table scene with its robust leg frame, finished in a pewter hammer powder coat and boasting an easy to use locking frame mechanism.
Don’t lose the cloth
The fibres act as a friction barrier should you be dressing your banqueting tables in beautiful fabrics, think of each little fibre as a teeny pair of hands, holding delicately to the tablecloth, keeping it in place, reducing any slippage or movement.
Noise control
It also has this crafty, not so obvious, other feature. Should your guests be sat around their tables, prosecco in hand and tear in eye whilst listening to the Father of the Bride’s speech, the last thing you want is for someone to disrupt the flow with the sound of clattering glasses as they’re placed back on the table. These little nylon fibres act as a cushion, absorbing the sounds, allowing for little to no noise distraction at all. You wouldn’t even hear the pin drop in the room (should it have been dropped on the table, of course).
On-site manufacture
Here at Burgess, we manufacture on site in our West London factory and this flock coating process is no different. Our machine has been in use for well over 20 years and is still producing a staggering number of flocked table tops to date.
So is it for you?
We’d recommend a flocked coating on our Slimfold™ range if you’re a venue that hosts a lot of dining events or functions where you will be using a tablecloth. We have a vast array of different tables to suit any venue, but should you need to dress your rooms then a flock coated Slimfold™ will give you peace of mind that your dressings will stay put, and your guests will stay happy.
